Is this on earth?

Today I flew over Owens Lake (I'm pretty sure, anyway) en route from Salt Lake City to Eugene, Oregon, and saw what seemed like an alien landscape in eastern Nevada.

Owens lake is bright red, and was stunning from the air. If you want to read about why it's red, CLICK HERE.-Andrew

I get my salt from this area. Tastes really good and it's pink.

That is amazing. I have never seen anything like it. How in the world did you get such a good photograph out of an airplane? Very neat.

wow... that is incredible! I've never seen such a thing before. Very biblical plague like... but far less creepy. ;)

Hi, I'm pretty sure that's not Owens Lake, as it's further south and wouldn't be en route to Eugene. Also Owens Lake is fairly well nestled in between the Sierra Nevadas and the Inyo mountains, and the terrain in your photo doesn't look mountainous enough. Furthermore I would be surprised if Owens had that much water in it when you took the picture as it's now a dry lake, though parts of it are being mitigated by LADWP. It does, however, or did, turn red because of the bacteria.
